Vegan Full Fat Old Fashioned

After making my buttered bourbon, the next logical step was to use it in an Old Fashioned. Initially, I thought I'd made a mistake with the cask strength Maker's Mark, but after drinking it kept the flavour of the bourbon in pace with the other flavours.


  1. 50g buttered bourbon
  2. 5g (1tsp) maple syrup
  3. 1.5g Angostura bitters
  4. A slice of blood orange

Why a blood orange? It's fancy. This is a fancy cocktail. That and they're a bit sweeter: I find they stand up well to the rest of the ingredients, and the slice is even more delicious to eat at the end.


  1. Mix the bourbon and syrup in a glass.
  2. Add bitters: I like to go strong, 3-5 dashes gets about 1.5g. Mix again.
  3. Add your slice of blood orange, juicing a little.
  4. Freeze until ready to drink (I like to leave it in there for an hour).
